How to handle multiple projects at once as a multi hyphenated girlie
I’ve always had multiple projects since I was a child I mean have a look at my secondary school brochure - baby girl couldn’t pick one.
I read One Thing by Gary Keller and it rewired my brain because it challenged everything I thought I knew about productivity.
Now, let’s get into how I created a process to handle the chaos better because trust me it’s possible.
1. Honesty
You need to be honest about your goals and tasks. A question you could ask is
What can I do now that it would be almost impossible for me to reach my goal.
I paraphrased the question in the book, The One Thing.
2. Chose One Thing
This is for starters because I promise, I have learnt through experience that you may not be able to do everything at an excellent level, hence everything I mentioned previously can be summed up to this point. I read One Thing by Gary Keller and it rewired my brain because it challenged everything I thought I knew about productivity.
3. Focus
Firstly, I use my free time after work for my chosen goal and make it visible on my calendar to showcase this in real time on;
Monday - non-profit activities,
Thursday - newsletter writing
Sunday - rest, etc.
Fun fact: If an activity is not in my calendar there is a 99.9% that i would miss it.
This buys you time back that you can put into work or leisure activities that you enjoy because as we say in Nigeria - body no be fire wood.
3. Time Blocking
It can be difficult to put down your head and work on some days and this is where the Pomodoro technique comes in. I use Pomofocus to create time blocks and Freedom to block out distractions on my laptop and phone.
3. Delegate
Believe it or not, we all have 24 hours in a day and sometimes, what works is hiring someone else to help you especially with tasks that you don’t enjoy doing, eg cooking, house cleaning, laundry etc.
This buys you time back that you can put into work or leisure activities that you enjoy because as we say in Nigeria - body no be fire wood.
Lastly, I sleep on my laptop most days because some days you put in more to get the more that you are seeking.
I hope this helps you on your journey to reach your goals either in business, career, education or a combination of all, besides this newsletter is on doing it all.
